Rachel Parent, a 14-year-old activist from Canada, is every PR person’s dream (or nightmare, depending on whose side you’re on).
Parent is the founder of the Kids Right To Know, an organization campaigning for mandatory labeling of foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs). She challenged investor and TV host Kevin O’Leary (you’ve seen him on “Shark Tank”) to a debate after he called GMO protesters “stupid,” and recommended they “stop eating” as a way to “get rid of them.”
Last week Parent was a guest on the show O’Leary co-hosts, “The Lang & O’Leary Exchange,” from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and rocked the debate with absolute vehemence.
Not only is this young girl articulate, but she also appears to have several years of media training experience under her belt; she is sharp and delivers answers in an elegant, confident and succinct manner; knows the subject matter inside out; she was insulted but rolled with the punches in a gracious manner; and knew exactly the right things to say at the right time.
This, my friends, is a PR person’s dream.
