(W)right On Communications –
Taste of PR
My curious and ever-growing appetite for PR was more than satisfied last week when I had a “Taste of PR” through the PR experts at (W)right On Communications, a highly successful public relations agency with locations in San Diego and Canada. I walked into the agency thirsty with knowledge, and left loaded with PR goodies.
The purpose of my visit to the agency was to shadow a seasoned public relations professional for a day. This was made possible by the San Diego Public Relations Society of America New Pros committee, a group designed for professionals in the PR industry with less than five years of experience. The New Pros organized a fantastic event held in agencies throughout the city, in which PR mentees had a “Taste of PR” by shadowing PR mentors.
To be selected to participate, potential mentees had to write a paragraph detailing their past PR experience, why they were interested in being a mentee and their particular areas of interest in the profession. Out of all the applications received, only 10 mentees were selected; I was one of them! Happy dance!
The New Pros committee then assigned mentees to a certain agency depending on their fields of interest. After the wonderful experience I had, there is no doubt in my mind that (W)right On Communications was a perfect fit for me. The company’s culture is warm, sunny and very welcoming; the staff is professional, yet fun and relaxed. There was an instant connection 🙂
(W)right On Communications was formed in 1998 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and it serves a wide array of clients coming from the most diverse industries across the Americas. I can say with utmost confidence that its highly qualified staff puts extreme care into each one of their clients’ cases to obtain exceptional results.
I had the fortune of shadowing the company’s president and founder, Julie Wright. From what I witnessed, I can tell you she is a supremely skilled PR pro and a relentless professional for whom I have tremendous respect. Wow!
Julie oversees every aspect of her agency’s operations and provides her expertise to all (W)right On Communications’ client accounts. She has accumulated an impressive amount of accolades, including the San Diego Business Journal’s 17th Annual Women Who Mean Business Award, and being named one of 50 to Watch by a regional business magazine.
I also had the opportunity to work very closely with account coordinator, Chance Shay, and Heather Hinman, a researcher and online content specialist. These two young, PR professionals contribute an immense amount of energy and fresh insight to the firm. They are both very impressive and remarkable PR pros with a very promising future!
Some of the things I learned at the firm include time management, managing conflicting priorities, managing clients’ expectations and developing PR proposals. A topic that was often brought up was keeping a healthy balance between your personal and professional life, something that Julie does admirably well!
As if things couldn’t get any better, I got to experience Guitar & PR at its best. I brought my guitar with me and played everything from AC/DC to a Venezuelan Waltz on my classical guitar. Click on the video below to see me playing at (W)right On Communications.

San Diego PR New Pros certainly did an exceptional job at organizing the “Taste of PR.” Thank you, New Pros and (W)right On Communications, for allowing me to feel like a PR Pro for a day; certainly an indelible occasion and one that will surely contribute to my professional success!
