My Celebrity Moments – Updated Sept. 1, 2012

Woo! So, I wrote this article in May of 2010, and I’m happy to report that since then, I’ve crossed out two of the guitarists on my “guitarists I’m determined to meet” list, plus I’ve met a few others πŸ™‚ Dreams DO come true in a world with no limits…

Anyway, below is the original article with a few updates. Also, I added some super famous non-guitarists to the list, too. Enjoy!

###

I don’t mean to brag (well, just a little bit), but I’ve met some pretty amazing guitar players – the kind of guitar players you’re likely to worship and have a poster of in your room.

Below you’ll find a list of all the amazing guitar players I’ve been fortunate enough to meet. You’ll also find a list of guitarists that I’m determined to meet in the future.

Share your stories with me! Let me know whom you’ve met and whom you’d like to meet.

Cheers.

  • Haha! I’ll be back in person to return that high five and hopefully add all of the ‘want to meet’ players to my ‘have met’ list in January!

  • OK, I’ll play. πŸ™‚ I’ve been lucky in that I’ve managed to meet (and in rare cases occasionally work for) quite a few of the guitarists that I admire and that have inspired me over the years. I imagine I’ll probably forget some, too.

Eddie Van Halen (TOTALLY nice, dug that I was inspired to and still build mutt Strats because of him)

    Yngwie Malmsteen
    Joe Satriani

    C.C. Deville

Though I’ve yet to formally "meet" him, I’ve run into Jeff "Skunk" Baxter at my local supermarket…lol

I’m sure I’m forgetting people, but there’s the guitarists I can think of off the top of my head (I worked in a guitar store for a couple of years too, if you counted all the guitarists I merely helped from behind the counter, there’d be tons more)…as far as all-around cool musician-types I’d add?

    Frankie Banali
    Rudy Sarzo
    Chuck Wright
    Sean McNabb
    Kevin Dubrow (R.I.P.)
    Paul Shortino
    Dave Alford
    Matt Thorr
    Troy Luccketta
    Billy Sheehan
    Nikki Sixx
    Mike Inez

  • Jay,

WOW. Wow. All I can say is that I really wish I lived in L.A. Although I must say that I haven’t done too bad myself for being down in San Diego, no?

I rubbed shoulders with Dweezil Zappa, Hubert Sumlin and Steve Lukather at the King of the Blues final competition in Hollywood, but didn’t engage in a conversation with them.

I’ve met a ton of other celebrities (non-guitarists), some of them include:

Jeff Bowders, Derek Sherinian, John Myung, Jordan Rudess, Mike Portnoy, Jason Bonham, Glenn Hughes, James LaBrie, Tito & Jermaine Jackson, Mana, Alex Lora, Billy Sheehan, Ahmad Ahmad (the comedian), etc. I know I’m forgetting a bunch.

Thanks for sharing, Jay πŸ˜€ Wooo πŸ™‚

  • Wow, I thought I had meet a lot of great players, but clearly I’m not in the same league! Still, I have met and spoken briefly to two on your wish list, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. Jason Mraz is at an industry conference, here in HK, later in the month so we’ll see.

Amongst the others I’ve met, Tommy Emmanuel and Robben Ford really stand out as nice guys and easy conversationalists. Both happily tolerated me degenerating into a fanboy and asking inane questions about strings and neck relief…

  • Does met by email count? no… ah ok.

Well my list is pathetically short, these are the people I have actually talked to:

    Joe Bonamassa
    Joe Satriani
    Michael Lee Firkins

    I don’t get out much πŸ™‚
