I can’t tell you how many times people have been shocked to learn I’m a guitarist. “What? A female guitarist? No way!” Actually, I’m a person just like you who plays guitar. OH, and it just so happens that I’m a woman. Big deal.

I’m not one to patronize feminism, but this sort of behavior is a stark reminder that ignorance and prejudice remain a pernicious threat among society.

And it doesn’t only happen with women. It happened to the little boys below from Unlocking the Truth, who chose to play metal instead of hip hop – the genre people ASSUMED they would play because of their skin color.

But as with everything, it’s not what happens to you, it’s how you choose to deal with it. Me? I choose to take the high road :), and so do the members of Unlocking the Truth.

Check out Unlocking the Truth’s inspiring way of dealing with judgment and prejudice.
