according to CareerCast, I have a stressful job. The job search site recently posted a list of the 10 most stressful jobs for 2013, and public relations came in at number five.
The website used 11 criteria, which include physical danger, having your life at risk, having responsibility for other people’s lives, and how much you work in the public eye, which is where PR comes in.
Tony Lee, publisher of CareerCast.com, toldYahoo! that PR pros’ jobs are pretty exposing.
“Their job is completely in the public eye, trying to manage awareness and branding for various products and services,” said Lee. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in charge of toothpaste or a small nonprofit, you’re still under stress to make sure the word gets out in a positive way.”
While it’s true that PR can be highly stressful, it’s also one of the most rewarding careers out there. Waving the flag for something you’re madly passionate about (guitars in my case) is worth every bit of stress.
Having said that, I will close with one of my favorite quotes:
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” – Confucius
